The Asian Liaison Unit (ALU) is a team of dedicated officers that focuses on the public safety needs of the Asian community. They facilitate translation services to patrol officers, various investigative units, and the community. Their primary focus is to perform outreach and patrol functions to the community and to respond to all citizen’s needs.
The members of the ALU staff — sworn and civilian — speak Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese Cantonese, and Thai. The unit was officially established as the Asian Liaison Unit on March 4, 1996. The ALU is not a full police station, but the officers are deployed to provide their police service in all Districts.
The ALU is an active community-oriented policing unit within the Metropolitan Police Department. Please call upon us! We are here in the community to assist you.

Contacting a Specialized Unit for Normal Police Business
For other police services, such as to request an affiliate or Liaison Officer attend a meeting or to discuss other non-emergency issues, please contact the appropriate Liaison Office below. Please note that these offices are not staffed 24-hours a day, but all calls will be returned within one business day.

The Latino Liaison Unit (LLU) is a team of dedicated officers that focuses on the public safety needs of the Latino community. They conduct outreach campaigns to the Latino community in an attempt to solidify police relations. There primary focus is to gain the trust of the community and seek out information that leads to the closure of violent crime in the community. They conduct patrol functions and respond to all citizen complaints.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Liaison Unit
The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Liaison Unit is a team of dedicated officers that focuses on the public safety needs of the deaf and hard of hearing community. They provide sign language interpretation to aid deaf and hard of hearing citizens in their interaction with police officers. They also provide certified sign language interpreters to assist detectives in their investigations. They conduct patrol functions and respond to all citizen complaints.
